🇵🇭Coron Travel Guide: Palawan’s Island Paradise

Manila Philippines city streets with local culture and vibrant neighborhoods

Culture, Coastlines & Travel Adventures Through My Lens 🎥

Coron, Philippines is a tropical haven filled with crystal-clear lakes, dramatic limestone cliffs, vibrant coral reefs, and serene lagoons. Northern Palawan’s jewel offers unforgettable island-hopping adventures, snorkeling, diving, and moments of pure nature-inspired awe.

What makes Coron truly special is how untouched it still feels. Much of the island remains rooted in simplicity — with dirt roads, minimal traffic, and a slower pace of life that brings you closer to nature. WiFi only became widely available in recent years, and even now, this isn’t a place driven by connectivity — it’s a place to disconnect.

Here, life revolves around the natural world. Towering karst formations, hidden lagoons, and some of the clearest waters you’ll ever see remind you that Coron isn’t about overdevelopment — it’s about preserving its raw beauty. It’s also home to some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world, with vibrant coral reefs, rich marine life, and legendary shipwreck dives that draw travelers from across the globe.

Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or local culture, Coron has something for every traveler. From sunrise views atop Mt. Tapyas to soaking in the warm waters of Maquinit Hot Spring, this is a destination that stays with you long after you leave.

My First Impressions of Coron

Episode 1: Coron, Philippines | The PRETTIEST Island in the World!? 🇵🇭

Coron, Palawan, Philippines 🇵🇭 is one of the most breathtaking places on earth — known for crystal-clear lakes, dramatic limestone cliffs, and vibrant coral reefs that draw travelers from across the globe. Located in the northern part of Palawan, this island feels like a true escape — a place where nature takes over and everything slows down.

From surreal freshwater lakes to towering karst formations surrounded by turquoise waters, Coron is an island dream come true — and home to some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. Coron offers unforgettable island hopping, snorkeling, and marine adventures that showcase its incredible natural beauty.

What makes Coron truly special is how untouched it still feels. Much of the island remains simple — with dirt roads, minimal traffic, and a lifestyle centered around nature. WiFi has only become widely available in recent years, and even now this isn’t a destination built for constant connection — it’s a place to disconnect and soak in the scenery.

Coron is also one of the more expensive islands in the Philippines, especially compared to places like Manila or other parts of Palawan. Many places do not accept credit cards, so carrying cash is necessary for restaurants, tours, transportation, and local experiences.

🏨 Where I Stayed

I stayed at Coron Visitors’ Hotel, a comfortable and centrally located base that made it easy to explore restaurants, tours, and town life.

💪 Local Gym — Flexing Spartan Gym

For those wanting to stay active while traveling:

Flexing Spartan Gym — 100 PHP (~$1.68 USD)
Cash only, no AC
• Requires a short uphill walk to reach

🍝 Where to Eat & Go Out

Coron has a variety of popular dining and evening options:

Trattoria Al Forno — Italian cuisine and a cozy atmosphere
Lobster King — Fresh seafood and local flavors
Sharky’s Restobar — Casual dining with a lively vibe
Bam Bar — High-energy spot with live music and a cluster of restaurants in one area — great for evenings, but expect crowds

🌴 Mt. Tapyas & The Coron Sign

One of the most iconic things to do in Coron is hiking Mt. Tapyas, home to the famous Coron sign that overlooks the entire town and islands beyond.

• Around 700+ steps to the top
• Best visited at sunset for panoramic views
• Offers one of the most memorable viewpoints in Palawan

🤿 Siete Pecados — Snorkeling Experience

I started my morning at Siete Pecados, and it turned out to be one of the best snorkeling experiences I’ve ever had.

Entrance Fee: 400 PHP (~$6.70 USD)
Private boat + local guide included
Water shoes included — critical because the coral is sharp

The coral here is incredibly vibrant and at times very close to you. My guide showed me exactly where to find Nemo, and I saw a school of barracuda, which was unforgettable.

🏖️ Cabo Beach — Island Vibes

Cabo Beach is a quiet and scenic escape, offering true island vibes:

Pairs perfectly with a visit to Siete Pecados — just down the street
• Requires a tricycle ride to reach (best to rent a driver for the day if you don’t have a motorbike)
Dirt roads, so drive carefully
• Less crowded, peaceful, and surrounded by stunning natural scenery
• Not a large sandy beach, but an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoying the island atmosphere

♨️ Maquinit Hot Spring

After exploring Siete Pecados and Cabo Beach, Maquinit Hot Spring is the ultimate way to unwind:

• Natural saltwater hot spring surrounded by mangroves
• Best visited in the evening or after sunset
• Conveniently located in the same direction as Cabo Beach
• Perfect to combine with snorkeling or beach trips

🚐 Tips for Getting Around & Travel

Tricycles are the primary mode of transport in Coron
• Coron is very cash-based — many places don’t take cards
• If you’re traveling onward to El Nido, ferries are available but can be rough — flying is recommended if you can

🎬 Episode 2: Daytripping Coron 🇵🇭 7 Hidden Gems of Palawan

This was an unbelievable day — the crown jewel of Palawan, Philippines, and one I had been so looking forward to. Coron, Palawan, offers iconic lagoons, beaches, wrecks, and world-class snorkeling spots, and this full-day island-hopping adventure lets you experience all of it in one unforgettable day. For me, it was also my favorite place to fly my drone, with views from above that were absolutely breathtaking.

🚌 Pickup & Drop-Off:

• The tour picks you up and drops you off at your hotel, but we departed and returned from Lualhati Park in Coron.

🚤 Island Stops & Highlights:

Kayangan Lake — hike to the viewpoint, swim in crystal-clear waters, and admire the dramatic limestone cliffs. Hop-on, hop-off stop (1 hour). The views from above were incredible for drone footage.
Twin Lagoon — a unique feature is arriving at low tide, allowing you to slide under the limestone and reach the other lagoon easily. On my day, it was high tide, so kayakers had to go all the way around — still stunning. Swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking available (1 hour).
CYC Beach — a relaxing beach stop to enjoy the scenery and calm waters (1 hour).
Irako Shipwreck — snorkel or swim around this historic Japanese wreck (1 hour).
Lusong Coral Garden — one of the most colorful snorkeling spots I’ve ever visited, with vibrant coral and abundant marine life (1 hour).
Barracuda Lake — a guided tour through this striking freshwater/saltwater lake, with crystal-clear waters (1 hour).
Atwayan Beach — picnic and relax while taking in the serene surroundings (1 hour).

🍴 Meals & Extras:

• Lunch is included, and some tours also provide an afternoon snack such as fried bananas.
• Bring extra cash for kayaking, gear, or tips. I rented snorkeling gear directly from my hotel before the tour.

Health & Safety Tips 🛡️

The Philippines is breathtaking, but like any true adventure, it’s important to stay prepared. From island-hopping boats to jungle hikes, every experience brings unforgettable moments — and a few things you’ll want to plan for in advance:

🦟 Mosquitoes & Dengue: The tropics mean mosquitoes, and dengue fever is a real risk. Always pack bug spray and reapply often, especially at dusk.

🚰 Water Safety: Avoid drinking tap water, even for brushing your teeth. Stick to bottled or filtered water to keep your trip worry-free.

🛡️ Travel Insurance: This is essential! From unexpected illness and lost luggage to sudden changes of plans, having coverage keeps the focus on your journey — not the stress. In the Philippines, accidents are unfortunately common: I’ve witnessed everything from motorbike accidents to cuts on coral while exploring the islands. I haven’t seen it all, and you never know what might happen — that’s why travel insurance is non-negotiable.
